Between the wars

The Between the Wars exhibition begins with the establishment of the Swedish Air Force in 1926.

Pic:There were originally five wings, one of which was F 5 at Ljungbyhed, the site of the military aviation training programme. Several planes in this exhibition were training planes, including the only SK 10 Tigerschwalbe in existence.

SAAB is established

The Swedish aviation industry benefited during this period by the establishment of the Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (SAAB) in 1937. Otherwise, the period between the wars was one of disarmament. The experiences of the First World War (1914-1918) caused a growing antipathy to war and its misery, and a belief in a peaceful future. The Swedish welfare state developed during this period, with universal suffrage in 1921 and two weeks’ paid annual leave.
