Gripen simulator

Try operating the JAS 39 Gripen at the Swedish Air Force Museum. It’s like flying for real.

Pic: Inside the Gripen simulator. The cabin is a full-scale mock up of the cabin on the Gripen, and the instruments are identical to those on the latest version of the Gripen, the 39 C. The control column comes from the first Gripen, the 39-1, and is a bit different from the control columns of the mass-produced planes. Although the system hand controller or speed controller is the simulation version, it has all the functions of a speed controller in a mass-produced Gripen. The side panels in the cabin consist of photos, and the colour monitors on the instrument panel are touch screens that show a non-secret type of presentation aboard the Gripen.

All of Östergötland province and its surroundings

On the wall in front of the simulator, there are three large screens, each 1.3 x 1.7 m. The database covers an area of 200 x 200 km, which means all of Östergötland province and its surroundings. This is based on aerial photographs and satellite pictures. Houses, churches, power lines and trees reinforce the impression of true landscape.
